2004 National Junior Angus Show
Features "Angus & All That Jazz"

Mark your calendars now for the 2004 National Junior Angus Show (NJAS) set for July 12-17 at the American Royal Complex in Kansas City, MO. The Missouri Junior Angus Association is busy making plans for "Angus and All That Jazz." The six-day event will feature the largest single-breed beef cattle show in the world and a host of educational and leadership activities for all members of the National Junior Angus Association (NJAA).

The cattle show will include divisions for bred-and-owned bulls, heifers and cow-calf pairs as well as owned heifers, cow-calf pairs and steers. Youth also have the opportunity to enter steers in a carcass contest.

Judges for the cattle show include Brian McCulloh, Viroqua, WI., who will evaluate the owned females; Mark McClintock, Fot McKavitt, TX. who will judge bred-and-owned females and bulls and cow-calf pairs; and Jim Gillooly, Washington, IN., who will select champions in the steer show.

In addition to the cattle shows, educational contests are held for youth ages 9 to 21. Competitions include: prepared and extemporaneous speaking, team sales, quiz bowl, photography, poster, graphic design and creative writing. The American Angus Auxiliary will sponsor the All-American Certified Angus Beef Cook-off. As well, six members will be elected to the NJAA board of directors at the annual meeting of the JNAA that is held during the week.

More than 50 contestants will compete in the 38th Annual National Junior Angus Showmanship Contest. The contest is limited to two participants from each state, and a young person may only  compete once. Showmanship judges include Alan Miller, LeRoy, III.; Sharee Sankey, Council Grove, KS.; and Robert Alden, Hamilton, MO.

Exhibitors and contestants at the JNAS must be junior member of the American Angus Association and must be nine years old, but not yet 21 by January 1, 2004, to  compete in the activities. Applications for registration of bred-and-owned animals and all entries must be postmarked by June 1, 2004.
