2004 Missouri Angus Association Annual Banquet

The National Junior Angus Association (NJAA) honored two Missouri Junior Angus members at the 2004 Missouri Angus Association Annual Banquet, February 28 in Columbia, MO. The Bronze and Silver Awards are the first two levels of NJAA recognition. Youth must apply for the awards, based on their junior Angus activities and leadership involvement.

BRETT NAYLOR Earns Junior Bronze & Silver Awards

Brett Naylor, Buffalo, MO., has qualified for the Bronze and Silver Awards of the National Junior Angus Association, James Fisher, director of activities and junior activities for the American Angus Association in St. Joseph, MO., recently announced.

Naylor is the 17 year old son of Gary and Pam Naylor and is a junior at Buffalo High School. He has shown his Angus in numerous shows at the local, state and national levels. He has participated in photography, team sales and the quiz bowl at the National Junior Angus Show. he has served as secretary of the Southwest Missouri Junior Angus Association, a director of the Missouri Junior Angus Association and has been a member of the National Junior Angus Association since 1994.

The Bronze and Silver Awards are the first two levels of the National Junior Angus Association Recognition Program that began in 1972. Junior Angus breeders must apply for the awards and then meet point requirements in many areas of participation before receiving the honors. Applicants are evaluated in the areas of junior Angus association activities, participation in showmanship and leadership competitions, using performance testing to improve their herd and their progress in producing and merchandising Angus cattle.

The National Junior Angus Association promotes the involvement of young people in raising Angus cattle, while also providing leadership and self-development opportunities for its more than 11,000 members nationwide.



AUSTIN THUMMEL Earns Junior Silver Award

Austin Thummel, Sheridan, MO., has qualified for the Silver Award of the National Junior Angus Association, James Fisher, director of activities and junior activities for the American Angus Association in St. Joseph, MO., recently announced.

Thummel is the 11 year old son of Jeff and Deb Thummel. He has exhibited his cattle at various shows at the local, state and national levels. He has participated in the creative writing, photography and extemporaneous public speaking contests at the National Junior Angus Show. His Angus are enrolled in the Angus Herd Improvement Records (AHIR) Program. He is a member of the Missouri Junior Angus Association and has been a member of the National Junior Angus Association since 2001.
